Swann Fountain at Logan Circle.
Logan
Circle is one of Penn's original five squares (Northwest Square).
In 1821 the ground was being used as a pasture. On February 7, 1823, William
Gross was hanged there.
It was the last public execution held on the spot. It is not known whether
William was buried in the square, but it is known that the site was used as a
burial ground.
In 1825 it was renamed for James Logan ( Secretary to William
Penn). The square became a circle and the Swann Memorial Fountain was
installed.
(Designed by Alexander Stirling Calder)|
Today, it is one of the most beautiful spots in the city
